OUR MISSON + HERSTORY

The Not-School School for Social Justice envisions a not-too-distant future in which the concepts, skills, tools, and strategies of social justice movements are readily accessible to all who want them.

In the tradition of the American Indian Movement's Survival Schools and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee’s Freedom Schools, we were created in this urgent historical moment to fill a critical gap in equity-based and social justice-oriented education.

We aim to be a leading provider of accessible education for current and emerging progressive activists and organizational changemakers.

OUR VALUES

Rooted in intersectional feminist principles, our values guide every interaction we have with our partners, donors, community members, and colleagues.

Educate.

Ignite.

Transform.

Do you know Domestika? The learning portal that offers on-line courses for creatives in areas ranging from design and illustration to writing and marketing? Well, The Not-School School for Social Justice aims to be for progressive social justice advocates and activists what Domestika is for creatives. And we need YOU to make it happen!

But fear not! You don't need to know anything about on-line course creation -- even though we bet you already do. If you're intrigued but worried about the tech, don't worry; we've got you covered!

Earn a passive income from content you're likely already creating everyday for your students. Upload videos, webinars, mini-courses, e-books, worksheets, course activities, etc. The sky's (almost) the limit!

As a soon-to-be 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and in keeping with our intersectional feminist approach, The Not-School School is aiming for a co-operative financial model in which all Content Creators will retain 80% of the income generated from the content they create. In other words, if people buy your digital stuff, you'll earn money!

We're still sorting the details, but for the moment, please complete this form or email us at info@thenot-schoolschool.org and tell us about your idea(s).

We promise: It'll be fun!

We are actively recruiting folx to serve on the The Not-School School's inaugural Board of Directors.

If you’re excited by our vision for a new model for social justice education and want to be a part of our leadership teams, send us an email. We believe in the power of feminist collaboration!

Don't be shy, now.

Most marginalized academics learn to devalue our extraordinary skills, experiences, contributions, and accomplishments. So even if you're "just" an Assistant Professor, or "only" a graduate student, we want to hear from you if you'd like more information on this exciting volunteer opportunity to help shape a brand-spanking-new startup progressive social justice non-profit organization.

(Whaaaat?! That's super cool!)
